USA : Dickies to outfit Texas Motor Speedway workers - Apparel News USA

Dickies, the innovative work and lifestyle apparel brand, announced it will continue its partnership with Texas Motor Speedway from 2010-2012. The partnership names Dickies as the official work wear of TMS. As the exclusive work apparel brand at TMS, Dickies will outfit speedway workers for all major NASCAR and IRL weekends. Dickies takes pride in the authenticity of its work wear heritage, and the hard workers behind the scenes of North Texas’ largest sporting events are perfect examples of the brand’s core customers.

Dickies continues as a major on site marketer and the new partnership allows Dickies and TMS to work together for years to come.

Dickies continues to find ways to communicate its work wear heritage and broaden its lifestyle appeal across a multitude of marketing platforms, from NASCAR to board sports, music, professional bull riding, and beyond. The brand known for making durable, quality work gear at a great value, is broadening its marketing and sponsorship efforts beginning in 2010 in order to more effectively reach a wider consumer demographic.

“So many core Dickies customers are huge NASCAR fans, and we want to make sure they have the opportunity to interact with the brand at work as well as after work,” says Chris Prokopeas, Vice President of Marketing for Dickies. “Texas Motor Speedway offers us the chance to do exactly that with some of the largest race crowds in NASCAR.”

In addition to serving as the official work wear provider for TMS, Dickies will co-sponsor the track’s Lug Nutz street team, have entry gate and backstretch billboard signage at each NASCAR race annually, have a 20’ by 40’ display area for all event weekends, provide uniforms for all parking staff and ticket takers for all event weekends and maintain a customized Burn Out Alley motor coach hospitality zone.

Additional sponsorship programs from Dickies will be announced at a later date, and will expected to include a range of board sports and music initiatives to balance its NASCAR efforts.

USA : Webcast of Valley Forge Fabrics' sustainability strategy with MindClick - Textile News USA

HydroPoint Data Systems Inc., provider of the WeatherTRAK Smart Water Management solution, announced the next webcast in its Educational Series. The 360° Approach to Sustainability webcast presents a case study in achieving long-term sustainable growth. The program will shed light on how companies can fully assess their real-world sustainability performance and follow a roadmap to simultaneously deliver on “green” objectives while they reduce costs and achieve operational efficiencies. The live webcast event, hosted by HydroPoint and featuring MindClick SGM and Valley Forge Fabrics, takes place Friday, October 16 at 11:00 a.m. PT.

Instead of settling for a traditional evaluation of energy, water and waste indicators that don’t include initiatives to improve overall corporate performance, Valley Forge Fabrics chose to undertake a comprehensive assessment of its sustainability efforts. They turned to MindClick SGM for a 360° Sustainability Audit to measure the relative sustainability performance of its operations along with the green profile of the brand, employees and target market. MindClick SGM developed a Sustainability Scorecard™ unique to Valley Forge Fabrics to drive business growth, product development and to promote acceptance, understanding and adoption of sustainability in the hospitality industry. It also identified ways to highlight Valley Forge Fabrics’ accomplishments to strengthen industry leadership.

Valley Forge Fabrics, the leading sustainable textile source for the hospitality and lodging industry, is already known for delivering the highest quality service and value to the industry. The company sought to further improve its efforts by establishing transparent, ongoing sustainability performance measurement.

“Valley Forge Fabrics received a thorough evaluation of their organization’s sustainability performance relative to leading standards, industry practices and stakeholder expectations,” said JoAnna Abrams, managing partner at MindClick SGM. “Our Sustainability Scorecard has provided critical insights to bolster brand performance, increase stakeholder engagement, drive growth and increase ROI.”

Studies show companies that embed sustainability into their strategic plans outperform their competitors, reduce operating costs and improve employee morale. In addition to incorporating the most meaningful traditional green standards, the Sustainability Scorecard™ quantifies corporate sustainability efforts along with employee engagement and customer feedback to position companies for long-term growth.

“From the moment we opened our doors, we’ve vowed to provide the highest quality fabric value to our customers. With that comes the responsibility to preserve our earth and its resources as best we can,” said Diana Dobin, senior vice president of Valley Forge Fabrics. “Our company has reduced our environmental footprint and increased revenue all while shattering the myth that sustainable goods cost more. We’re more efficient than ever and are proud to be doing our part to help the environment.”

China : ACLE – a very successful event - Fashion News China

The Chinese leather industry is registering less severe declines and showing its first signs of recovery since last year, according to the China Leather Industry Association(CLIA). This was confirmed by enthusiastic participants at the 2009 All China International Leather Exhibition (ACLE).

Exhibitors were busy until the last moment seeking new relationships, reinforcing old ones, and offering new products. “ACLE is the only platform available to learn about the market and to meet potential customers”, said General Manager Rafique Nadaf of Allanasons Ltd, India’s largest commodities exporter. The 3-day event - held alongside Moda Shanghai and China International Footwear Fair (CIFF) and organised jointly by APLF and CLIA - attracted over 14,354 buyers. The fairs primarily service domestic Chinese buyers, although there were visitors fromoverseas with strong participation from Japan, Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan.

“The exhibiting products are innovative and there is a wide product range. By holding leather together with footwear, luggage and garments, it enables buyers to source in one place at one time. The fairs are also very professional and well-organised,” noted Chinese buyer Liang Hai Ping of Haining Haixiang Group Co. Ltd.

Exhibitors at ACLE showcased the latest in innovation, fashion and production technology. Paradoxically, while it is one of the oldest manufacturing industries in the world, leather is using the latest technologies. For its first showing in Shanghai, Italian company Praktica’s newest inkjet printer uses nano-technology to penetrate and print on every material, crystal, ceramics, leather and metal included, without prior treatment and with a perfectly smooth aspect. Manufacturers at ACLE also featured alternative chemicals and more environmental friendly processes.

One topic discussed heavily on fair grounds is the growing importance of China’s automotive sector in the leather industry. Mark Stribbling spoke on behalf of the new joint-venture business between Scottish Bridge of Weir Leather Company and Chinese Zibow Polygrace Dahuanjiu Tannery Group: “The automotive sector in China contributes to the recovery of the leather industry in China. It is not easy to quantify this but with the growth of the car industry in China, together with the high leather penetration in cars here, it seems clear that this is the case”.

Back on the topic of the well-attended fair, Thomas Sattler, director of global business management for leather chemicals at BASF said that ACLE has been busy. While over the years they had withdrawn from a number of fairs, Sattler deemed the fair as a “good place to be” and has already reserved a space at ACLE 2010. Sharing the same sentiment was Sateesh Jadhav of Gaitonde in India, who is now also the secretary of the Indian Leather Manufacturers Association: “ACLE has been very successful,” he said. Jadhav said he discovered at this year’s show that the China market is big business for tanners: “We have found that higher quality leathers are now made into articles which stay in China - and are sold to Chinese consumers”.
